Care Centre

Citadel Care Centre

Citadel Care Centre is situated in the beautiful community of St. Albert, and within close walking distance to the Sturgeon Hospital, shopping malls, restaurants, physician/dentist offices, and public transit.  It is adjacent to the commercial centre on St. Albert Trail which is designed to have complementary services within a seniors’ village theme.

Our building has architectural controls and high-quality finishes throughout the entire village complex.  The large open common areas include a beautiful three and a half storey central atrium core and entrance, as well as landscaped courtyards, skylights, fireplaces and various other amenities throughout the facility.  We offer a variety of options to suit your preferences including bright and spacious private and semi-private accommodations for your loved ones.  As a high-acuity setting we have the requisite supports and resources to provide patient-centered care that goes above and beyond that of long term care facilities.

We understand and appreciate the value and importance of family participation and family needs, expectations and importance of their input. We view our role as a partnership in service provision, working with families and their expectations to develop and provide high quality professional long term care services in a safe, quality home-like environment for their loved ones. Our relationship is based on trust and transparency of services. We are committed to addressing the challenges inherent in such transitional decisions and we do our best to provide a loving home-like environment to our valued residents.

Citadel accommodations consist of 8 semi-private and 113 private rooms. Accommodation rates are set by Alberta Health and vary based only on whether the room is semi-private (2 residents to a room) or private. Rates include all meal services and professional support services including the provision of most medications prescribed by doctors, under the guidance of outside physician services and professional pharmacists.

Please call if you are interested in booking a tour during regular business hours. For further information, please Contact Us. We look forward to welcoming you into our community.

Resident and Family Centered Care

We undertake great effort to develop a genuine understanding of who our residents and their families are, and what is most important to them. The transition to long term care can be challenging, both for residents and their families, and we aim to make it as stress-free as possible.

Our individualized approach enables us to tailor our care and services to your loved ones to ensure their overall health and wellbeing. We take the time to get to know each individual, and their preferences, in order to further develop goals and appropriate activities.

We also maintain an open-door policy to ensure regular feedback from residents and family members to better inform our services and care plans. Our interdisciplinary approach is focused on strength in numbers, and we conduct regular meetings with all team members to maintain regular communication and proactive planning.

Services and Activities

24/7 Care and Support

Citadel provides the support required to carry on with dignity, with the same love and care a family member would provide along with medical professionals. This support includes 24/7 skilled nursing care (Registered Nurse) and support.

Rehabilitation Equipment

To address mobility issues, we have dedicated exercise equipment to provide rehabilitation services. We have a full time Occupational Therapist, two full time occupational therapy assistants and one part time occupational assistant.

Meal Preparation

We provide nutritious meals and snacks, and are able to accommodate dietary requirements with the assistance of a registered dietitian. By catering to the dietary needs of our residents, we aim to provide the basic comforts of a shared meal to make everyone feel at home.  Check out our Fall / Winter 2023 Menu.

Medication Supply and Monitoring

We provide medication prescribed by physicians through our pharmacy service provider, and our medical professionals provide medication monitoring and oversight to ensure our residents’ wellbeing.

Recreational Therapy

Our residents are encouraged to explore their personal interests, or try their hand at a new activity such as painting. It’s the little joys that make life more enjoyable.

Social connection is often what gives meaning to our lives, and we make every effort to provide opportunities for social activities and fun events to look forward to. Check out our March 2024 Activities Calendar from Citadel.

Accessibility

Citadel Care Centre is committed to creating an accessible environment for all people who live in, work in, and visit our centre. We strive to remove barriers that might prevent full participation in our community. For example, posters and pamphlets have been printed in large font to enhance visibility, and equipment has been installed throughout the centre to support those with limited mobility.

These are just a few of the improvements we’ve made, and we welcome any feedback that might help us continue to grow. Please Contact Us if you have suggestions about making Citadel Care Centre more accessible for all.
